Amazon Kindle Fire – a social media round-up

The biggest news in publishing & technology this week has to be Amazon’s announcement on Wednesday that it was entering the tablet computer market with the Kindle Fire. A device with some innovative features and an attractive price point of $199 in the US, it was widely hailed as the biggest competitor to Apple’s iPad yet, although some pundits and analysts have expressed caution.

One of the more exciting new features announced for the Kindle for publishers was the launch of Kindle X Ray, which is intended to function as a semantic layer for ebooks.
